In a move that has sparked both excitement and praise, the Ministry of Education recently launched the Ghana Knowledge and Skills Bank (GKSB), a platform touted as a revolutionary leap in the nation's educational sector. Unveiled on September17, 2024,the GKSB aims to provide a vast number of diverse online resources, including digital library archives, academic materials, AI predictive test questions to prepare students for exams, course creation modules for educators, TVET learning modules, tutor me AI to teach students any subject, and many more. And to truly ensure that no one is left out there is a feature that allows users to translate the pages and resources into a myriad of multiple local
languages such as Twi, Ga, Ewe and more. The GKSB is not just another digitalrepository; it’s a dynamic ecosystem set to transform how Ghanaians acquire and apply knowledge. At its core, the platform aims to bridge the skills gap by offering an extensive range of educational resources, training programs, and professional development opportunities tailored to meet the needs of both individuals and businesses.
Communications and Digitalization Minister, Hon.Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, praised the platform for its potential to deliver knowledge to every corner of the country and providing a central hub where students, professionals, and entrepreneurs can access high-quality, relevant information and training at their fingertips. The GKSB provides exactly that, with cutting edge tools and content designed to enhance skills in various sectors, from technology and engineering to arts and business.
This initiative aligns with Ghana’s vision for a knowledge-based economy, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
A standout feature ofthe GKSB is its inclusion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses. This addition is being hailed as a major step toward equipping students with the practical skills needed in today’s job market. For years, TVET has played second fiddle to traditional academic pathways, but with the GKSB, technical education is finally getting a seat at the table.
The Minister of Education, Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, also emphasized that with the launch of the GKSB platform, Ghana joined Egypt as the second African country to implement such a comprehensive digital platform, developed by yours truly, Npontu Technologies, with backing from MTN and funding from the World Bank.
At Npontu Technologies, we have always been driven by a vision to harness technology for a transformative impact and with the unveiling of GKSB, we have turnedthat vision into a powerful reality. The launch of the GKSB marks the beginning of a collaborative journey and we invite educational institutions, industry leaders, and governmental bodies to join forces in populating the platform with top-tier content and interactive tools. Together, we can build a vibrant community that supports lifelong learning and drives Ghana’s economic and social progress.
